Pride and Prejudice

It was the second time that I read the novel “Pride and Prejudice”. “Pride and Prejudice” is a famous novel written by Jane Austen, an English writer. She used humorous, ironical, polished language to describe the bourgeoisie’s life and thought, and expressed women’s perplexed and misery. And this is really a beautiful and romantic story happened in a county of England.

The Bennet had five daughters who were not betrothed yet . But some extraordinary significances were brought into their quiet rural life when two Mr Noble and a regiment arrived .

" It is a truth well known to all the world that an unmarried man in possession of a large fortune must be in need of a wife " , and this sentence is the beginning of the novel . To a degree , it has become a famous saying for most people . Therefore , the story- Pride and Prejudice show us a series of love stories .

The love between Elizabeth and Darcy is the main idea of the novel . There is a contrast between the marriage of Elizabeth's friend and hers . Although Charlotte and Collins lead a comfortable life , without love , their marriage is actually a kind of social tragedy under the gorgeous appearance . Mr Collins stated three reasons for his marriage definitely : "First , it is a priest to marry , as an example to other people . Secondly , I am sure my marriage will add greatly to my happiness , and thirdly , which perhaps I should mentioned easier , my generous patron has advised me to marry" . It seems the three reasons is awfully grandstanding , but a feeling of illusion over me . As far as Mr Collins was concerned , marry somebody is for others , not for love . And as Charlotte who had received education but with poor possession marry Collins is a honorable way . So their marriage is more like a trade , they can get what they want form each other except love .

In this book , we can see the different attitudes for love of different men . When the

first time Elizabeth refused Collins's propose , he said: I am far from accusing you of cruelty in refusing me , as know it is the custom with elegant ladies in society to refuse a gentleman next time . I hope to receive more favorable answer next time I speak to you of marriage ." After he realized he was self-deceiving and decided to marry Charlotte . But the most ridiculous , Jane is the first person he wanted to marry . While about Mr.

Wickham , he was the most shameful person , deceptive , cunning , ambitious , peripheral . There is no truly love in his heart . His behavior was at the mercy of money and sex . A person who didn't love others wouldn't gain love form anyone. As for Darcy's friend -Bingley , because of lack of confidence , which may be relate to his modest characteristic , he always asking his friends for advices . As a result , he lost many chances to convey his love to Jane . As far as I am concerned , we ourselves can be placed by any other people . No one expect yourself can realize what you desire and who you love indeed . Fortunately , they finally through many agonies and tied the knot .

When it comes to Darcy , most of people will show their admire to him , especially

for ladies . Without pretending care about someone and saying what others said , hs just sat there quietly and listened carefully . However , it was misread easily by people , as well as Elizabeth . He never complained when Elizabeth quarreled with him . Even his proposal was refused ,he still to be a gentleman and gave a hand on the Bennet when they were in their peril . Time witnessed his genuineness , he kept waiting Elizabeth to touch his heart ...

The concept of pride can be defined in two ways: positive and negative. Possessing

positive or right pride is to have self-respect, honor, and integrity. On the other hand, wrong or negative pride is defined as showing arrogant or disdainful conduct and haughtiness. Mr. Fitzwilliam darcy displays the positive side of pride while Mr. Bennet possesses wrong or negative pride, and a lack of pride itself in some cases. darcy is responsible for his sister, himself, his estate, and his family name. He takes pride in these things and does anything he can in order to protect them. But Mr. Bennet who is responsible as a father of five daughters, a husband, and the holder of reputable conduct in the family, does not take pride in his family or his responsibility.

And in the same way there are two ways of pride: positive and negative. The two

major themes of jane Austen 's pride and prejudice are summed up in the title. The first aspect can be traced in the actions and statements of all of the work's major and many of its minor characters. Pride is the character flaw that causes Elizabeth bennet to dislike Fitzwilliam darcy upon their first meeting. She perceives in him a cold aloofness that she attributes to his own inflated opinion of himself. Yet Elizabeth herself also suffers from the same flaw; her pride in her own ability to analyze character is such that she refuses to

reevaluate darcy in the face of evidence in his favor.

pride and prejudice was the representative work of Jane Austen. It gave us a vivid

expression of the reactionary and traditional country life and peoples minds during the 18th century and 19th century in Britain . this great novel not only attracted thousands of readers in Austens time, but also gave a special feeling to todays people.

A reflection of our true love and ourselves always can be found in the Pride and

prejudice . We will be amazed by the power of love .
